About Colosseum

Colosseum is a clinical multiplace chamber where several patients are treated in the same pressure cycle. It is built in steel in a modular cylindrical form and ships in two seat configurations on one platform: 4+2 seats as the standard build and 2+2 seats as a scaled-down alternative. Operating pressure is 3.0 ATA.

The structure consists of five steel pressure modules, two end caps and nine panoramic acrylic windows. The modules pass through standard building doorways and are assembled on site, which makes the chamber installable in existing buildings.

Two seat configurations

Seat count is the only variable in the base build. The 4+2 build is standard and is the basis for the specification below. In the 2+2 build the plant equipment, compressors, dryers and air and oxygen storage, scales down proportionally.

Ante-chamber and medical lock

The chamber has two independent compartments. The ante-chamber is used for controlled decompression and to let medical attendants in and out during an ongoing treatment. An integrated medical lock (Medlock) allows material to be passed into the chamber without breaking pressure.

Four monitored patient stations

The standard build has four fully monitored patient stations with individual monitoring systems, in addition to the two seats in the ante-chamber. Every seat has its own BIBS regulator, and a hood breathing system can be added.

Monitoring and fire safety

Oxygen, carbon dioxide, pressure, temperature and environmental conditions are monitored in real time. Fire protection is integrated into the chamber with smoke and flame detection, nitrogen-activated water extinguishing and a redundant safety architecture. Emergency decompression takes approximately two minutes.

Pure oxygen, precisely controlled

BIBS delivery. Oxygen reaches every seat through an individual BIBS regulator, so the chamber itself stays pressurised with breathable air rather than oxygen. A hood breathing system is available as an option.

Oxygen supply. Dedicated oxygen concentrators per seat feed the system, with 100 litres of buffer storage keeping the flow stable through the full treatment.

Compressed-air infrastructure. Three compressors, air dryers and 1000-litre air storage tanks supply the chamber in the 4+2 build. Gas distribution inside the chamber is medical-grade copper.

Operator control

Colosseum is run by an operator outside the chamber. Pressure is governed by fully automated PLC-based software that holds the treatment profile and alarm limits, with manual internal pressure control alongside it.

The automated control runs compression, treatment plateau and decompression to the set profile. Emergency decompression from operating pressure to atmospheric takes approximately two minutes.

Planning a Colosseum installation

The chamber is delivered in modules that pass through standard doorways and are assembled on site. Beyond the chamber room, space is needed for compressors, dryers and air and oxygen storage, along with power for the compressed-air plant. Nordic Welltech carries out a site survey before quoting and confirms space and power requirements against the chosen configuration.

Certifications

ASME-PVHO · PED · CE · ISO · NFPA

Certification scope varies with configuration and destination market, and clinical installations are normally subject to additional national requirements. Nordic Welltech confirms the exact certificate set for your specification before order.
