A hypobaric chamber for altitude simulation, in two capacities: Compact with one seat and Extended with two. Pressure is lowered by a vacuum pump included in the base build, and the chamber can be fitted with training equipment, oxygen with BIBS, monitoring and a fire safety system.

  • Two capacities: Compact and Extended
  • Up to 2 seats on Compact, up to 4 on Extended
  • Vacuum pump included, air chiller required
  • Stationary bike or rowing machine optional, for training at simulated altitude

About Tampa

Tampa works the opposite way to a hyperbaric chamber. Instead of raising pressure, a vacuum pump lowers the pressure inside the chamber, which lowers the partial pressure of oxygen and reproduces the conditions found at altitude. That makes the chamber a tool for altitude adaptation and conditioning rather than for hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

The chamber is a cylindrical pressure vessel with side portholes, a door with an acrylic window and a touchscreen mounted at the door. It ships in two capacities that differ in length and seat count.

Two capacities

Compact ships with one seat and can be extended to two. Extended ships with two seats and can be extended to four. Otherwise both are built on the same system, and the options below apply to either build.

Vacuum pump and air chiller

The vacuum pump is included in the base build and governs chamber pressure. An air chiller is required and lowers the temperature of the compressed air before it reaches the chamber. In humid climates a refrigerated air dryer is also recommended to remove moisture from the air.

Oxygen and BIBS

The chamber can be fitted with an oxygen concentrator, one unit per seat, together with a BIBS regulator system that delivers oxygen through individual masks. A set of ten masks is included with the regulator system. On Extended a 25 litre oxygen buffer tank is required to keep the flow stable.

Monitoring and safety

A patient monitoring system for vital signs during the session and a CO₂ sensor that monitors the chamber atmosphere in real time are both available. The fire safety system is NFPA compliant, with detection, suppression and an alarm interface.

Training inside the chamber

Tampa is built to be trained in. A magnetic stationary bike or a magnetic rowing machine from Technogym is available as an option, and the equipment sits inside the chamber so the session is carried out at reduced pressure.

Breathing hoses and masks allow oxygen to be delivered during the session when the chamber is fitted with an oxygen concentrator and BIBS.
